FAQ - Vet Select Seizure FormulaHow do I determine the proper dosage to give my dog? A. The dose is determined by the size of the pet and the severity of the seizures. A small dog with seizures occurring once a month or so, might start with 2-3 capsules, two times daily. The same dog with frequent seizures might start with 3-4 capsules, two times daily. A large dog with infrequent seizures might take 4 capsules, two times daily. The same dog with frequent seizures might need as many as 6 capsules, two times daily. Once you determine the starting dose, continue with it and see how it goes. If the seizures become less frequent and severe, but are not eliminated entirely, then increase the dosage. Can I overdose my dog on Seizure Formula? A. No, since this is an all-natural, herbal combination, not only are there no harmful side effects, but the formula is actually beneficial for the liver. This is important because it can help repair damage done to the liver by seizure drugs, such as phenobarbitol. Can I stop giving my dog some of the drugs the vet prescribed for seizures once the seizures are controlled with the Vet Select Seizure Formula? A. It is very hard to give a general answer to this question, since every case is different. This is a decision that should be made by you and/or your veterinarian. Typically, we see cases where seizure drugs alone are not controlling symptoms. We don't recommend making any changes in the medications you are using unless your dog is totally seizure free for at least a few months. If you decide to try to reduce the dosage of drugs, you might, at the same time, need to increase the dosage of our Seizure Formula in order to continue to control the seizures. The main thing to remember is that the dosage of drugs must be adjusted VERY GRADUALLY (not more than a 10% reduction every two months). If you pet's seizures were very severe and/or frequent prior to starting on Seizure Formula, it might not be advisable to make any changes with regard to the administration of other drugs. However, if you still feel that you would like to try to reduce the dosage anyway, we highly recommend following the above guidelines and, in addition, adding our liquid herbal seizure formula to your treatment regimen. Call Customer Service (843-881-5500) for more information on this option. Can I put the Seizure capsules in food? A. The capsules can be opened and put in food; however, sometimes you can’t be sure that your dog is eating all of it this way. You can try some tricks to get him to eat the capsules. One way that works well for most dogs is to melt a thin piece of cheese in the microwave, then wrap the sticky cheese all around the capsule (most dogs will just wolf it down this way). Another option is to hide the capsule in a small meatball of canned food (dog food or even canned cat food – most dogs LOVE canned cat food due to its high protein content). Of course, you can always try wrapping the capsule in a thin slice of lunch meat, or even putting peanut butter on it. You or your vet are welcome to call (843)881-5500 if you have questions.
