Perhaps your cat has been acting a little more irritated than usual. He has been having a little harder time pooping, and he seems a little more intent on licking his bottom

than he usually does. This might be an indication that your pet has cat tapeworms.

Tapeworms in Cats: What are They?
Cat Tapeworms are nasty business; the feline tapeworm (T. taeniaeformis) is a pretty gross creature. Initially, it starts its life as part of contaminated rodent food (not domesticated rodents mind you) and finds its way into the bowels of the rodent where it lays its eggs. Once the eggs are laid, they soon hatch and find themselves in the liver of the infected rodent.

I realize that you are wondering where your cat got the tapeworms. Explanation is simple enough; your cat ate the rat. Once the liver of the infected rodent makes its way into your cat’s stomach, the worms that were once part of the rat are now laying and hatching eggs in your cat. These tapeworms now make their way down into the small intestine of your cat where they will stay until you cat dies, gets treated, or is eaten by another cat.

Tapeworms in Cats: What do They do?
Fortunately, there isn’t much a tapeworm can do to your cat except eat its food. Your cat may feel anal irritation if the tapeworms segments separate and pass through with your cats poop. Your cat may also experience an increase in appetite, diarrhea, and a heavy tapeworm infection may cause some serious weight loss. As stated before, cat tapeworms are nasty business.

Tapeworms in Cats: The Diagnosis snd Treatment
Diagnosing cat tapeworms in your pet is a simple enough procedure. All your vet will do is that they will have to take a look at your cats’ feces under a microscope. In come cases, if the tapeworm segments are large enough to be seen by the human eye, your vet may just take a glance at your cats behind to diagnose.

Treatment of your cat’s tapeworms can be done one of two ways. You can take him to the vet where he will get a shot or a pill, or you can treat him holistically at home. Most treatments that your vet will offer can have lasting side effects on your pet. Natural remedies such as Tape-eze will rid your cat of tapeworms and, because they are natural, will not have any lasting side-effects.
